Update and housekeeping

I said it would just be a few more weeks until the book was well and truly done and I could return my attention to this blog. Now that few weeks has become a month, and there's still one more week to go before I have to have the final marked-up pages and prettied-up graphics in. So it's still pretty busy here at Long Tail HQ, but the end is in sight.

Publication date is July 11th. Pre-orders available now (ignore the subtitle and cover image, which are both placeholders).

I should be properly back by the end of March. I'll start with about 60 links of interest and then update you on the latest data and research. It will be worth the wait, promise.

In the meantime, a few updates.

--I've bought longtail.com from my friends at Live365 who were, er, holding for me. (They had outbid me for in an auction with a mysterious Russian a year ago, but were great about selling it back to me at a fair price). It now resolves to this blog.

--I'm speaking next Friday at the M3 music conference/festival in Miami. Tons of cool bands..and me (come for the bands).

--I've also bought geekdad.com, where I plan to start a group blog focused on fun science/tech/math/engineering things to do with your kids, ranging from robotics to rocketry. Working motto: "Permission to play with cool toys isn't the only reason to have kids, but it's up there." Look for more in April.

See you soon!

good! I've been needing a long tail fix . . .

Looking forward to the book! Will you have any graphics in the audio version :)

That's great, Chris. I love the geekdad blog already... Brilliant idea, and you're the perfect person to do it. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Right on Chris! Bring on the toys.

finally! Can't wait to read the book and the blogs.

Great to hear about geekdad.com

Hope you get a chance to check out www.Minti.com (a parent to parent advice-opedia) and maybe write a father's article on toys and their children? :)

Geekdad sounds awesome. I'll let all my homeschool families know about it too-they are all about finding stuff like this.

Planning on pre-ordering the book soon.

By the way, does anyone else here HATE the dust jacket Amazon.com shows for the book? What the hell does an Enter key have to do with anything Chris has talked about for over a year?

I hope you fought for a better cover to your book, because if it doesn't sell well, it will be precisely because people have no clue what to expect by looking at an "Enter" key. And it's not even the fact it's an "Enter" key that should make you upset. It's an "Enter" key with a 1995 dropshadow Photoshop effect. I usually don't say someone did a bad job at something, but, I mean, wow, someone put zero effort into that.

I feel sorry for you Chris. Hyperion hired a cover artist with LESS talent than the person who designed this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0807061875/

I've noticed a lot of Hyperion books have bad cover art.

Chris -- Great to hear about geekdad.com I have a blog for teachers and parents at http://www.stevespangler.com and judging from the "dad" email we get, I think you've hit on something big. Check out the Experiments or Cool Science Videos links - maybe we can share some fun posts for your new venture.
